What is partial discharge in power cable?

What is partial discharge in power cable?..

Answer / sudipt jena

Partial discharges often occurs near the entering of cable into a panel or electrical machines.Because at this position, the cable is stiffly bended which results stress in the insulation i.e. XLPE. And as the time passes insulation degrades leading to passing of some electrical charges from conductor to the earthed parts of the panel or machine. A humming sound is also created and is called partial discharge.
