how many percent setting of motor over load relay of its
full load current
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Answer / ritesh
actually setting of over load relay depends on the duty of
motor.if duty of motor is 2 then set relay at full load
current.if it is 2.1 then set relay at 10% higher then full
load current so on...........

RELAY SETTING REQUIRES TWO THINGS CURRENT AND TIME
CURRENT SETTING CAN BE UP TO 20 TO 30 % FOR SMALL MOTORS
AND UPTO 10% IN MV MOTORS.
BUT DONT FORGET FOR MUCH TIME U R OVERLOADINIG THE MOTOR.
TIME SETTING IS ALSO IMPORTANT...

Is it safer to find out the spec about the motor winding
before deciding the overload relay settings. Every motor
manufacture has detailed spec. about is motor winding such
as insulation class:. Overloading the motor full load
current will deteriorates the insulation and winding life.

Grounding. Dear all at one of my site we checked the amps at the earthing cable to the alternator it was found 125 to 130 A. at the neutal cable in same machine found 146A. in the same plant checked the earthing current on other alternator it was 52A, and neutral 116 A. we are facing problems with our controller and the card was damaged once. can that neutral/GND current be a reason? as there is common grounding for the Alternator,Brkr panel,Transformer?
