for a three phase motor do work properly all the 3 phases
must be active. In case if one of the phases fails then the
motor will not work properly ( SHOULD ACTUALLY STOP
ABRUPTLY )and may probably give a loud whining noice.

If one of the phase fails when a 3phase induction motor
is running, motor will continue running with a 25
percentage of more current in other 2phases.
If the thermal overload protection is not working
perfectly, the motor winding may burn.
