what is the function of breather in a transformer..

Answer / vishal kumar sharma.

As the transformer oil (used in transformer for cooling in
oil tank) is a very costely & important for transformer.
Its provide cooling to windings as well as inolation.

If the moisture mix in this oil, its electric resistavity
is decrease which is harmfull for the windings and the oil
life is also decrease. As we use a silicon breather in the
input way of air, which comes when temperature of oil &
windings decrease.

what is the function of breather in a transformer..

Answer / victor nyami

Transformer while in use succesive loading causes temperature variation of windings then oil as the transformer becomes heavily loaded thw temp of oil rises so there occurs a remarkable volume change due to expansion at this time a transformer breathes out when a load gets reduced the oil temp drops so it contracts at this time transformer breathes in.
As most of air have some moisture content so the breather trap the moisture so that the sucked aie becomes purely anhydrous
Short circuit is avoided in that way and transfomermer oil properties remain unaltered

what is the function of breather in a transformer..

Answer / srighakollapu ajith

Breather is a device in the conservator as the oil in the transformer tank expands or contract due to load current let us suppose take the oil in tank expands then the level of oil in the conservator raises so air is released out from it is absorbed by breather it consists of silica gel which prevent the air consisting of moisture.

what is the function of breather in a transformer..

Answer / vijay

Breather are used to absorb the moisture content from the
sucked air, while the transformer oil gets expanded due to
heating. Breathers make use of silica gel coloured with
brown used extensively in power transformers.
