In volute casing area of flow increase so due to this decreases in the velocity
and when velocity decreases,the pressure of the water flowing through in the casing increases

volute casing is generally spiral in shape with increasing cross-sectional area..when water flows through this then according to continuity equation its velocity decreases resulting in decrease in its kinetic energy...now according to bernoulli's theorem total energy during the flow remains constant, so when kinetic energy decreases then pressure energy and potential energy increases....but increase in potential energy is negligiible

the volute casing is nothing but a diffuser.the function of
diffuser is to convert kinetic energy to pressure energy
just opposite to nozzle.so finally we get high pressure
