I dont understand the question.Is the question 'what is
message type' or "what are the types of messages'.

I assume it as 'what is message type'

It comes under IDOCs concept. Message type is used to
identify the type of data which is sent by sender.

some of the standard message types are:

DEBMAS - customer master
CREMAS - vendor master
MATMAS - Material master

Plz let me know if im wrong

IN SAP ABAP/4 , WE HAVE 5 MESSAGE TYPES IN A MESSAGE CLASS.
THEY ARE..
1.I -> INFORMATION MESSAGE
2.W -> WARNING MESSAGE
3.S -> SUCCESS MESSAGE
4.E -> ERROR MESSAGE
5.A -> ABAND MESSAGE ( FOR ABNORMAL ENDING).
A MESSAGE TYPE DESCRIBES WAT TYPE OF MESSAGE TRIGERRED!

Message type defines the semantics i.e the meaning of the
data carried.

Hi everyone! i m pursuing ABAP so still in learning phase i want to know abt. IDOCs and ALE like what's the role of messege type in IDOCs and how things goes on in background i know i sound absurd but as i m not clear abt. the same Ur advice wud be highly appreciated looking forward for a quick reply with some scenarios if URl for some gud sites that wud b helpful in the initial stage of learning wud b provided it's wud b g8 thanks in advance
