Why used in layer by layer charcoal and salt used in earth
pits.

The layer of charcoal and salt helps to maintain low
resistance for earth fault currents.Because of ionic
behaviour of salt and charcoal they will maintain moisture
content around the earht pit.

Answer / vijay
its because Salts are ionic compounds composed of cations
(positively charged ions) and anions (negative ions) so
that the product is electrically neutral (without a net
charge), and these are the electro-chemical properties that
make them suitable for buffering of electricity from the
copper rod to earth's soil, they work best when they are
dissolved in water becouse that is when the ions are
produced. The layer of charcoal and salt helps to maintain

Answer / a.y.naidu
by usage of charcoal and salt in earthing we can reduce the
resistance and also it will give moisture content for a long
time.so it early discharges the faulty current into earth.

Charcoal is porous - locks in moisture that salt attracts
and dissolves in - ionised solution is kept on large
reaction area that charcoal pores provide. Such locked in
material is prevented from drying up easily.

Answer / nimish
because charcoal is a good conductor of electricity and also
charcoal and salt helps to maintain the low resistance path
for fault current.

Answer / srinivas dharani
charcoal is maitain the low resistance and high
conductivity.
salt is desolved in water the possitive ions abserved by
charcoal and released so the earth resistance maintain
properly.

Answer / pushpendra
Charcoal is used to retain the moisture for long duration because it is an adsorbent and salt is added to increase the conductivity both these products help to pass the leakage current through earth wire as early as possible to remove the chances of shock.

Salt is acting as an electrolyte between the GI rod and coal...hence they are used in layer by layer...the aim this arrangement is to minimize the earth resistance.
