a Batch # is given to a specific production output may be
based on Time/Date of Manufacturing Or Specifications of
BOM Or tp Specific Customer Or any other information by
which we need to Defferentiate the Products.
A serial # is given to Specific Item or Product.
in shorts BATCH # denote Specification of PRODUCTION and
SERIAL # contains Specification of PRODUCT

A batch number is assigned to group of materials for which
are common with specific characteristics ( Many number of
parts can belong to a single batch )
A serial number is assigned to a product. No other product
can exist with the same serial number. It is an unique
number related to a single product.

Batch no is specific to a group of product where no of
items / Material are possible.for example a box contain 12
articles and box is an material in SAP then a batch can be
given to a box whereas serial no can be specific to an item
within the box.

In a simple way if you want to identify materials with some
charactastics like density with some value range go for the
batch management.
If the requirement is identity products go for serial
number management

In a Hospital a material which is medisin they procured it and issue to CC and all stock is consumed. now stock is "0" Payment made to vendor company. but after 8 months all a batch testing govt. org. issues a circular that the batch which you have purchased is not effective. then Vendor company provided new material free of cost again. in this synerio how to inward that new stock. ?
