Answer / divya
carona phenomenon is the ionization of air surrounding the
power conductor.it is defined as self sustaineed electric
discharge in which field intensity ionization is localized
only over a portion of the distance between the electrons.

corona is an phenomenon associated with all energzied
transmission lines. Induced current effect associated with
operation of high voltage transmission line. This effect
include audible noise. To produced tiny electric discharge
that can inoize air closed to the conductor.so the loss can
be occur in the transmission line.

when a transmission line is carried a high voltage then
the atmospheric ait near conductor get gharged and have a
sound, called carona effect.

The flow of current between the two conductors of the lines
negligiblely smal for parctical purpose. When the electric
field intensity reacher 3 MV/Meter the error in visinity of
the condutor no longer remains a dielectric but it ionised
and become conductive. This electric breakdown is associated
by yhe following phenomena. A fair glow appears around the
conductor which is visible in the dark.there ais a tendency
of vibration by which a sound is produced.

WHEN TWO CONDUCTORS ARE CONSIDERED WITH LARGE DISTANCE
BETWEEN THEM, THAN ITS DIAMETERS.ON APPLYING A.C VOLTAGE
BETWEEN THE CONDUCTORS THE ELECTROSTATIC STRESS IS PRODUCED
IN SURROUNDINGS OF CONDUCTOR IN ATMOSPHERE WHICH CAUSES TO
FAINT VOILET LUMINOUS GLOW WITH HISSING NOISE ALOBG WITH
OZONE GAS,IN LONG TRANSMISSION LINE, IS CALLED CORONA
EFFECT.

Its an electrical demerit which occurs during transmission on of Extra High Tention (EHT).It has very high voltage but low current (I).This transmission is done only of 3 phase (R,Y,B) or its multiples.
due to +ive charge(Phase supply) ,-ve charge mostly in rainy season of atmosphere .A electrostatic pull/attraction is created (OPP CHARGE)which results in humming sound or minute sparkling can b seen on the wire its known as corona effect.

When a high or extra high voltage transmitted in a
transmission line as long as the air is subjected to a uniform electric field intensityof peak value less than 3×10⁶V/m,the flow of current between the two conductors of the line is negligible for practical purposes.but when the Electric field intensity(voltage gradient) reaches reaches this critical value(3×10⁶V/m),the air in immediate vacinity of conductor surface becames conducive and looks bluish or violet and due to dielectric breakdown of air and vibrating tendency of conductor a hissing noise comes out,it is Called as CORONA.
Due to corona OZONE and OXIDE OF NITROGEN formed on the outside surface of the
Conductor, there is a loss of power, there is a radio interferrence and a faint glow appeares around the conductor which is visible in dark. The effect of this to the power system is known as CORONA EFFECT.
