Answer / ashley day
Profiles are the component of the older SAP releases, this
was not replaced in the newer versions but a new layer was
placed above Profiles, Roles.
Profiles are therefore a subcomponent of Roles, they have a
one to many relationship where when authorization objects
overflow one profiles limit it will create a second profile
for that Role and so on.
Roles are logically assigned to users to give the newer
functionality of Roles (Menus etc), but profiles are
assigned to give the authorizations.

Ashley

A role is merely a shell to house the profile. Roles contain
no actual access. They contain a role menu composed of
transaction codes. Those transaction codes are then mapped
into the profile automatically by profile generator. The
tcodes become field values in the S_TCODE authorization.

Answer / imran khan
A role act as container that collect transaction and
generates the associated profile. The profile generator
(PFCG) in SAP System automatically generates the
corresponding authorization profile. Developer used to
perform this step manually before PFCG was introduced bySAP.
Any maintenance of the generated profile should be done
using PFCG.
