RFC is Remote Function call.T-code used is SM59.
Types of RFC:
Synchronous RFC
Asynchronous RFC
Transactional RFC
Queued RFC
Synchronous RFC: SRFC is a means of communication between systems where acknowledgements are required.The issue is if the target system is not available, the source system resources wait until target system is available.
Asynchronous RFC: It is a communication where acknowledgement is not required Target system.It is not reliable for communication since the data may be lost if the target system is not available.

IN synchronous RFc both system available at the time when call is made, but in asynchronous rfc both system are not available source sends request and strart its work .
