In IR We identified functional group of compound by using ir rays from [w] tongusten lamp.
In polarimeter we using na lamp.For plane polarised light

IR lamp is called as GLOBAR and it will produce only IR rays.but in polarimeter two different lamps are used.one is sodium lamp and it will produce D-LINE Rays at 589nm and another one is mercury lamp and it will produce mercury line rays at 546nm.
