It is not primary, but HV side. For OLTC-above answer of
low current is OK. For Off-Ckt TC; more turns to get more taps, away from core i.e. near to tank which facilitate easy tap connections.

current of primary side is low i.e smooth control gear is possible in this method of tapping that's why....

Tapings are connected to high voltage winding side, because of low current. If we connect tapings to low voltage side, sparks will produce while tap changing operation due to high current.

_we used a tapchanger in the transformer so that we can select a tapping,same voltages to the primary lines input to the transformer..exam..if 17627 volts primary lines,the tapchanger also point to 17627 taps.

In a transformer pri. Wdg. Is
always wound over sec. Wdg.
So it is not possible to
connect tap changer in sec.
Side. For this reason we use
tap changer in pri. Side.
