what is the difference between real and reactive power? and what is the importance of these

Real power is the power which is actually required to operate
the connected load in power sysyem.Reactive power is the
waste power from electricity board point of view but it is
the inherent requirement of the inductive loads.
In short it reduces the capacity of cables and transmission
line but is inherent requirement of the load.

Active Power = Real Power.
Active Power:As the name itself say, which actively participate in the circuit i.e it does the useful work.Example it get convert in tilight energy, heat energy, mechanical energy etc.
Reactive power:its the one which flows back to the generating station without doing any work or convertion. It doesn't do any useful work.
For example: I gave you 100 rs (apparent power) to bring rice from a shop. But you brought rice of only 80 rs,and returned 20 rs to me.
In the above example I assumed that total 100 rs will be converted in to rice, but only 80 rs is converted into rice and 20 rs returns to me,which is not desirable for me,i want rice of 100 rs but not of only 80 rs.
So,in the above example 100 is apparent power, 80 which converted into rice is active power and 2o which comes back is reactive power.Hope this may clear your doubt.

real power does all the useful work in the circuit, while
reactive power just flows from the source to load and again
from load to source without doing any significant work.
Reactive power in inductive circuits is balanced by
connecting capacitors in series of the circuit.

When testing an earthing connection, we use a 60 or 100 candle bulb with a phase connected direct from supply and the other wire to the new earthing provided. If the bulb glows then the earth is ok.Else earth connection is not Ok. So, why dont we can use all the home appliances taking a single wire from the phase and the return connection to Earth instead of return connection to neutral?
