Answer / kamlesh kothari

we are using 50 hz frequency in india and we do not use
other frequencies like 52,59,42 etc because of our national
electrical power is 50 hz basis and all power generators or
equipment and plant designed on 50 hz frequency.

why we use 50hz frequency in india why not other frequencies like 52,59,42 etc ..

Answer / kj

Other then it being the standard it is because the rpm of
machines is set by the frequency. To generate 50 Hz the
generator must run at 3000, 1500, 1000, rpm depending on
the number of poles (2, 4 and 6). At 52 hz it would be
3120, 1560, 1040 rpm.

why we use 50hz frequency in india why not other frequencies like 52,59,42 etc ..

Answer / shahbaz shaikh

at the power station the generator turbine set for 50 hz and our electrical system is designed for 50hz frquency and as we know that all type of losses are depends on frequency if it is more then losses increases and also motor goes to saturation, hormonics hence we use 50hz frequency in india and not other frequencies
like 52,59,42

Grounding. Dear all at one of my site we checked the amps at the earthing cable to the alternator it was found 125 to 130 A. at the neutal cable in same machine found 146A. in the same plant checked the earthing current on other alternator it was 52A, and neutral 116 A. we are facing problems with our controller and the card was damaged once. can that neutral/GND current be a reason? as there is common grounding for the Alternator,Brkr panel,Transformer?
