An auto transformer is used where we need the voltage from 0 to the max value. In an ordinary transformer we can only tap the voltages at few points.

when i am going to take trail on a 3ph sq.i/m motor 5.5kw, i observed that RPM of the motor is very low as compared to the rated RPM and also it rotates in clockwise in first ON command,and anticlock wise in second ON command. finally i observed that on phase is no available . but iam not clear about, why the motor is rotates in both directions without any phase interchanging.pls answer to my question.

It is a three inch fan and i want it to rotate to other direction .I've tried cutting the wire and reconnecting them inverse like black to white and white to black ,but it won't start rotating when i plug it in that way.And then it works again when i rejoin the wire to the way it is. In a 3 phase 4-wire system. For a 3.5 core cable if all loads are single phase and balanced, what will be neutral current? will it be sum of all phase currents? Or it will be zero? And if loads are unbalanced what will be neutral current?

why do we require two lines one phase and a neutral for an ac transmission..is neutral potential zero..?if yes y carry a neutral line from generating station itself...why dont we take it from ground
