As the Induction motor works on induction principle. that is if we give supply to the stator a voltage is induced in rotor, as the rotor is short circuited a heavy current is flowing thorough the rotor conductor,thus a torque is developed in it and it starts rotating.
Instead of giving supply to stator, if we given the supply to rotor windings by using carbon brushes, we can get the induced voltage in stator.

In the case of petrochemical area AC drive & AC motor is used where the speed variation is required. Why they are not Using DC drive & DC motors in such areas?
