As the Induction motor works on induction principle. that is if we give supply to the stator a voltage is induced in rotor, as the rotor is short circuited a heavy current is flowing thorough the rotor conductor, thus a torque is developed in it and it starts rotating.
Instead of giving supply to stator, if we given the supply to rotor windings by using carbon brushes, we can get the induced voltage in stator.
