SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF A BATTERY IS THE ENERGY DERIVED PER UNIT
WEIGHT OF THE CELL. WITH THIS THE VOLTAGE AND CURRENT IS NOT
AFFECTED.

Specific gravity is the ratio of the weight of a solution to
the weight of an equal volume of water at a specified
temperature. Specific gravity is used as an indicator of the
state of charge of a cell or battery. However, specific
gravity measurements cannot determine a battery's capacity.
During discharge, the specific gravity decreases linearly
with the ampere-hours discharged.
so specific gravity depends on volage/current.

It is an indication about the charge storing capacity of a
battery. If sp. gr. decreases / increases, it affects the
voltage across terminals merely but the back up provided
will be affected adversely. In simple words, the battery
performs optimally near to the standard sp gr of 1200.
