The applied voltage divided by the total series resistance is the current passing through the bulbs since it is in series.When one bulb is fused there is a reduction in resistance and prorate increase in current.so corresponding increase in brightness definitely be there.

when they are connected in series and one of them is removed
then the Resistance reduces and would result in more current
flow. This would result with a brighter light.
