We know that for an A/c circuit Kw=Kva*P.f & the load power
factor is unknown to the manufacturer.So the rating of the
alternator is mention by Kva. Now for D.c circuit p.f=1 ,
Hence generator(D.C) is rated as Kv*A*1=Kw.

Losses in an alternator are dependent of load power factor so it is rated as KW instead of KVA
