it is the functionality added by sap for endusers
we can write our own code and use them anywhere in our
report
user exits are useful to create our own coding in the
existing sap functionalities

User exit is a 3 digit code which tells the system to
access a particular program during the system process, they
are of 2 types-
USER EXIT : U**
STANDARD SAP EXIT : S**

It is a part of ABAP code dveloped by the customer and not
maintain by SAP. It isn't related to production system,
user exits are made in Development system and then
transported to Production.
User exits are used to implement functionalities not in
customizing.
