active power is V.I.cos(theta)
while reactive power is V.I.sin(theta)

For active power.

P= V*i*cosQ ( watts) wherw Q is the angle between phase
vol. & phase current.

For Reactive power.

P = V*I. ( VA)

Re: What do you mean by Power factor of a generator? Power factor purely depends on the load (wether inductive, reactive or unity) then what does the Power factor mentioned on the generator nameplate means?
