star to a system?

Answer / kk
Delta connection is parallel effective and star is series
effective. Capacitors offer more impedence when connected
in parallelthan in series.

The reasons are-
1) The equivalent capacitance of a delta bank is more than
the equivalent capacitance of a series capacitor bank and so
more the capacitance more the reactive power will it supply
& since capacitor bank's sole purpose is to supply reactive
power, delta connection will serve better.
2) If there is any circulating current in the bank then in
delta this circulating current remains within the bank &
dont get spread to whole system unlike in star connection.
(for easy remembrance- due to the triangle shape of delta
connection circulating current circulates within the
triangle only)
3)In delta, phase current=line current/1.732
i.e the phase current becomes smaller and thus the losses
also decreases.

Capacitor is used to balance the line inductance and hence
to increase the power factor. The effective capacitive
reactance is 3 times more when connected in parallel than in
series. So, to improve the p.f. by a fixed amount, the
capacitance required in parallel is 1/3 of capacitance
required in series. So, the cost is less for parallel
connection.

dear kk,
as per u capacitor offer more impedence it means resistance
and reactance will increase as per this equation
Z=(R+jX)^1/2.Then what is the advantage of having high
impedance in a system,
secondly, can u put more exaplanation on:-
Delta connection is parallel effective and star is series
effective?

in the Delta connection, the phase voltage is equal to line
voltage, and in the star Connection it is 1.732 times.
The Delta Connection is Parallel wher star is series.
And the Capacitor Bank is Connected for the Power Factor
Improvement. so when connected in Delta Connection, the
Power factor can be Improved by a fixed amount.
THIS IS AS PER MY KNOWLEDGE............

c is capacitor connected.
In delta connecton,
source 3ph grounded star,
Q(per phase)=(omega)*(3*c)*V^2
In star connecton,
source 3ph grounded star,
Q(per phase)=(omega)*(c)*V^2.
so with low value of c we are able to supply more reactive
power in delta than in star.

capacitor is 1/wc. so if we parallaly add it is in series
and if we seriely add it is in parallel.

As we all are familiar that equivalent capacitance of a delta bank is more than the equivalent capacitance of a series capacitor bank and so
more the capacitance = more the reactive power it supply
&
since capacitor bank's mere purpose is to supply reactive
power, delta connection will serve better.
it wld be more clear with expression:-
In delta, phase current=line current/1.732
capacitance required in parallel is 1/3 of capacitance
required in series
The effective capacitive
reactance is 3 times more when connected in parallel than in
series. So, to improve the p.f.
