the reason for using carbon brushes is it has resistance which is good enough for avoiding sparking during commutaion.This feature is also present in copper but frequently carbon is used

because the carbon is of less cost. and as frequent wear and
tear will occur to the brush due to rotation of the
motor...carbon is most economical.
and frm conduction point of view also it is good..so carbon
is used
