amount of residual substance not volatilised from the
sample when sample is ignited in presence of sulfuric acid.
So both the test are usually used to determining the

residue of ignition and sulphated ash terminology is same
but as ignition time no sulphuric acid is add during
ignition test
but in sulphated ash first ignite the sample at suitable
temperatur then added 1 ml sulphuric acid & ignite suitable
temperature as per IP,BP&USP

Answer / k.pradeep
residue on ignition and sulphate ash has small
difference(although similar) that is in sulphate ash we use
sulfuric acid where stable inorganic sulphates are formed
stable at high temp........... without sulfuric acid if we
ignite it is residue on ignition

terminology sulphated ash

Answer / syed mastan
Both are same but termnology is difference
As per USP-Residue on ignition
As per Bp-Sulphated ash
