And "limit state method"?

Answer / nishant ratan bhardwaj
working stress method(WSM) 1- insure safety of structure against service load only
limit state method(LSM)1-insure safety of structure against both ultimATE and service load
WSM2-assumed to be deterministic because all load ,stresses ,factor of safety are already known
LSM2-non deterministic loads and stresses and load are predicted based on design data or experience of engineer
WSM3- based on linear stress distribution diagram
LSM3-based on non linier stress distribution diagram
WSM4- design values are obtained by applying factor of safety
LSM3- by applying paetial factor of safety

in working stress method the design is done by using factor
of safety but in the limit state design factor of safety is
not considered. most of the present designs are based on
limit state method for attaining more life of structure
