dear friend,
in vortex flometer, it is natural phenomenon that if you
put an obstructionin the path of flow, automaticaly vortex
are generated.in this case the important point to be
observed is that the number of vortexes generated are
directly propotional to the velocity of the flowing fluid
but the distance between vortex to vortex remain constant,
while we have the formula
v=F.lemda..... where the lemda is defiened as the distance
between vortexes which is constant.
and velocity is directly propotional to frequency.
where we can use several types of sensors to detect the
vortexes, such as piezo electric type sensor. when a
vortex will hit to the sensor the pulse is generated and by
calculating the number of pulces we can determine the
velocity and then flow.
YOU can physically observe this case.. ... but it is to be
needed to go near river and search the place where the
stones are up than water level. sit there and observe the
phenomenon
it is better to fo that place where the depth of water is
not more than 6 inch and flowing speed is not much fast
...... cisit that place daily and observe that when the
flowing speed is more that day the more vortexes are
generated

An obstruction in a fluid flow creates vortices in a
downstream flow. Every obstruction has a critical fluid
flow speed at which vortex shedding occurs. Vortex shedding
is the instance where alternating low pressure zones are
generated in the downstream. These alternating low pressure
zones cause the obstruction to move towards the low
pressure zone. With sensors gauging the vortices the
strength of the flow can be measured.

As a fluid flows past a bluff body, or shedder at low
velocity, the flow pattern remains streamlined. however, as
velocity increases the fluid separates from each side of
the shedder and swirls to form vortices downstream of the
shedder.A svortex is an area of swirling motion with high
local velocity and thus lower pressure than the surrounding
fluid. the amount of vortex generation is directly
proportional to the velocity of the fluid. Therefore, we can
use the relationship Q=AV to obtain the flow rate. a
pressure sensor that is mounted on the upstream side of the
flow shedder detects the pressure that is exerted on the
shedder by the formation of vortices. The signal from the
pressure sensor is converted into a calibrated flow signal
by an electronic circuit in a flowmeter.

When a shedder bar is placed in a fluid, Karman vortices
are generated on the downstream side. The vortex frequency
is proportional to the flow velocity, and corresponds to a
specific range of Reynolds numbers. The vortex frequency (f)
is calculated by the formula; f=St*v/d
v: flow velocity, d: width of shedder bar, St: Strouhal

Working principle is piezo electricity..
When liquid or vapor passing from vortex meter at that time sensor activate and produce mechanical distoration so at the end emf produces.
In the between of the metal body there is a piezo electric crystal, amplifier in upper side and analog meter in other side...
Both side flange in line of vortex meter
Emf produce and given to amplifier
There is 24v dc to operate an amplifier
Output of amplifier connected with i --> p
Produce 0.2 to 1.0kg/cm2
Given to recorder or controller
Output of controller given to control valve
From that changes in output of controller, valve changes its position as per set point

The operating principle of the vortex meter is based on the
fact that when a flow hits an obstruction (bluff body), it
separates and moves around the object to continue on down
stream. Vortex swirls separate from the object on
alternating sides at the contacting point with the object.
This shedding causes low pressure swirls on one side and
high pressure on the other side. The process is reversed
from one side to another and keeps on alternating. The two
swirl frequencies are 180 degrees out of phase to each
other. And the frequency of this shedding process is
proportional to the velocity of the flow.
By measuring the frequency of formation of the vortex on any
side of the bluff body, the flow rate can be obtained. The
fluid velocity is proportional to the vortex frequency and
the width of the bluff body.
