1. check out for Brushes. If Brushes are there then it is for sure DC motor. If not then
2 Cooling fins for ventilation are to be checked. if cooling fins are there, then it is AC motor.
Cooling fins can be seen from a long distance also as it is external....

To check it physically check the following
1. starter mostly frequency based starter for AC motor to
acheive energy saving
2. connection : AC has star/delata wnding connection
3. Dc motor always have carbon brushes
4. Dc motor is used for constant torque application.
5. Ac motor has Rotor and DC has Armature

DC motor has commutators, with segment, brushes and its
holders and a rewound rotor known as armature.
while AC motor has stator and rotor sometimes rewound rotor
with slip ring on the shaft

For dc motors the outer part of stator surface is smoothly
and for ac motors there is a numbber of fins parallel for
cooling purpouse

D.C motor can be differentiated by means of its rotor part.
Because of rotating magnetic field A.C motors will have
mostly squirrel cage rotors.
Where as all D.C motors will have slip ring brush
arrangements in its rotor.

Answer / vikas
we can check the dc and ac motor by just seeing from
outside.....if we carefully see the outer perifery of both
the motor then dc motor have bolts mounted outside through
which poles are connected in stator but this is not the case
of ac motor....so we can differenciate...

In all dc motors
there is a
commutator
found for
operation.but ac
motors have no
comttr foun for
its work.

in the dc motor direct current is given.
in case of ac motor it works on the induction principle.
only in ac squirrel cage & slip ring IM
