Generally in any motor the following types of problems can
occure in Running condition :
under Voltage ( During motor start ),
over load ( If we couple a pump or compressor over rating
than motor so we put more load on motor during running ),
Some time undercurrent may also.
Rest as Mr. kumar said above winding damage also happen but
it is a physical damage.
All motor those being used in field allways being heated by
some auxilary supply voltage to avoid moisture contamination
on motor winding ( not required during running as being
heated by the main supply voltage ). Otherwise in a long
run the moisture can damage the winding insulation and
winding may be short circuited.

I think, my friends are correct. However, the following
problems shall be consolidatively considered which would
occur for motors.
1. OVER VOLTAGE
2. OVER LOAD ( that is over curren resulting over heat}
3. disconnect of either one or two phase in case of 3 pahse
motor
4. Phase sequence reversal
5. Over speed
6. Earth fault
