IN INDIAN RAILWAY 25000V SINGLE PHASE AC SUPPLY IS USED
WHICH IS CONVERTED IN D.C THROUGH A RECTIFIER SET BECAUSE
IN ELECTRIC ENGINE WE ARE USING DC SERIES MOTOR AND FOR
THIS WE NEED DC SUPPLY . CAUSE OF USING DC SERIES MOTOR IS
THAT ITS STARTING TORQUE IS TOO HIGH IN ALL MOTORS.

25000 v single phase ac is converter to 1500 v dc.in
electric train dc series motor is used because of high
starting torque and speed control is good and also good
breaking..

In India 25KV AC traction is used. But in Mumbai as of
December 2010, from Mumbai CST to Kalyan; Mumbai CST to
Panvel [Central Railway] & Churchgate to Borivali [Western
Railway] is 1.5KV DC Traction....
The section from Churchgate to Borivali [Western Railway]
will shortly be converted to 25KV AC... & after some years,
Even the other 2 sections wil b converted...

25kv ac supply for longer dstances which is convrted to dc through rectfier which consists of diodes as electric engins require dc motors in which rotating torque is high and dc supply fr shorter dstancs like in metro.Along with ac supply dc motor is equieped
