MCB can be used for only over current triping.
MCCB can be used for over current and earth fault(in built)
triping.

Can we use MCCB to protect the cable for termal and short

MCB- is genarally used for lighting, it is fixed Rating
like: 2A, 6A, 10A,16A,20A,32A,63A. it will trip at any time
current carrying more then its rating.BUT MCCB- is genaraaly
using for Power sources, it is working range of current.
like: 4 -6A, 6-10A, 10-16A. it will use for Varies settings
have to set.

And also difference in short circuit current carrying
capacity.MCB having max up to 25kA. MCCB having up to 50KA.

MCbs can withstand fault current upto 9KA. whereas MCCBs
can withstand high fault current upto 100ka. Hence MCCBs
are recommended to install at high current distribution
systems. Whereas MCBS are used for feeder distribution.
MCCB cost very high when compared to MCB

the difference between mcb and mccb is the difference of
adjusting tripping characteristics. this adjustment is
possible in mccb. the higher current making and breaking
capacity is one of the difference but the main reason is
the tripping char adjustment.
