What is the thumb rule for calculating the P.F correction Capacitor?? Say for 100 hp motor how much..

Answer / himanshu

Motor is an inductive load so it is consuming
active power that depends on its load and
reactive power that is consumed by motor to set up its
magnetic field it is constant so we should connect a
capacitor which consumes the negative reactive power
according to p.f. correction requirement.

Is This Answer Correct ?    5 Yes 10 No

What is the thumb rule for calculating the P.F correction Capacitor?? Say for 100 hp motor how much..

Answer / santosh

Approx. one third of HP rating of 3ph motor is kvar of
capacitor required.

Is This Answer Correct ?    3 Yes 8 No

What is the thumb rule for calculating the P.F correction Capacitor?? Say for 100 hp motor how much..

Answer / rajnikant

First convert HP into KW.
1HP = 746 KW

Then assuming 0.8 powerfactor of motor,calculate KVA

KVA = KW x powerfactor

now calculate kvar by using following

KVAR = square root of (square of kw - squre of kva)

Is This Answer Correct ?    3 Yes 10 No

What is the thumb rule for calculating the P.F correction Capacitor?? Say for 100 hp motor how much..

Answer / pankaj malhotra

For 100 HP load kVAR required will be half i.e 50 kVAR. If
you go for proper calculation, ans would be closer.

Is This Answer Correct ?    8 Yes 18 No
