what happens when a DC supply is given to AC motor?

Answer / nd.palanivel
No rotating magnetic field is generated and hence the motor
will not rotate, instead a break is applied on the rotor for
a sort period. Depends on the magnitude of the DC supply and
the DC resistance of the coil, heat will be generated on the
coil. Coil will burn if the supply is applied continuously.

Earlier reply is OK, some more elaboration given below
No rotating magnetic field is generated and hence the motor
will not rotate,
No back EMF will be generated,
reactance(XL)will not come effect as frequency is "ZERO",
Rotor impedance will be remain isolated from equivalant ckt
of stator.
Only resistance of stator ckt(which is very low) will be
there. Hence stator current will be very high,Motor will
burn.

WHEN DC SUPPLY IS GIVEN TO THE AC INDUCTION MOTOR THERE IS
NO PRESENCE OF ROTATING MAGNETIC FIELD SO MATOR DOES NOT
ROTATE BUT THE FIELD WINDING IS LESS RESISTIVITY SO HIGH
CURRENT WILL BE DROWN AND DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF HIGH
CURRENT MOTOR WILL MAY BE BURNED

Answer / pranav priyadarshi
actually when dc supply is given to ac machine there will generate const field due to which rotor won't rotate, and also stator draws large current due to which i^2*r losses is more and hence more heat is generate ,due to which machine may burnt out......

Answer / c.rajakumar deee.,be.,
Motor will draw more current .
A hissing sound and a dampering will occur in motor it may
damage the motor severly and results in coil burn also
