Leading power factor means current can lead by voltage and
always use for induction motor.
lagging power factor means caurrent lag by voltage and
alway use for improving power factor for office where we
need to improve power factor and get lost cost effect.

Power factor is a cosine angle between voltage and current.
if it is more than 1.0 then it is considered as leading
power factor. and if it is less the 1.0 then it is
considered as lagging power factor.

Practical condition in 400KV Sub station:- Breaker(open) , isolator(open), Earthing (close) at both end e.g A & B. Now Open A Stn Earthing than Open B stn Earthing (Which have a 50MVA reactor) , AND suddenly show R,Y,B phase 704KV,573KV,118KV respectively. Que is without closing of breaker how it is possible.????
