Answer / ravi ranjan gupta
it rectifies the output alternating current so as to produce
unidirectional alternating current i.e pulsating DC.it
reverse the negative polarity current to a positive one so
as the output is a pulsating DC

Generally all types of generators induced emf in sinusoidal
wave form (A.C). In particularly D.C generator commutator
function is convert A.C emf into D.C.

COMMUTATOR IS WORKING AS A RECTIFIER.IN DC MOTOR IT'S USED
TO CONVERT THE AC TO DC.
Is This Answer Correct ? | 37 Yes | 9 No |
the function of commutator is to lead current from external stationary leads to the rotating coils of the armature winding in case of motor and to draw current from armature winding to external circuit in case of generator
basically it act as a rectifier as it converts sinusodial(a.c.) signal into d.c signal

Answer / m.srinivas manoj
in generator only alternating current is produced so to
making it unidirectional we use commutators it acts like a
rectifier to convert ac to pulsating dc
Is This Answer Correct ? | 23 Yes | 5 No |
Answer / venkatesan.j
It converts alternating current to unidirectional current
and also provied point for collection of current.

A commutator is device which changes an Alternating current to a Direct current.
Is This Answer Correct ? | 4 Yes | 0 No |
Answer / subhajit gorain
Its function is to collection of current from armeture conductors, sent it to the carbon brush and then it convert the alternating current to direct curreny.so it is called a macanical rectifire.
