Answer / rahul
Relay is an electromagnetic device. There are two types of
relays __ Power relay (or contactor) and Control relay( or
simply relay).
The function of a contactor is to use a relatively small
amount of electrical power to control the switching of a
large amount of power
Control relays are frequently used in the control of low
power circuits or other relays

actualy thy are classfied as two types power relay and control relay as per requirement. here power relays are called as contactors an contol relays are simply called relays.
when relay is used switch a large amount of electical power through it circuits it is given a new name called contactor.
relay can used for only control the circuits where as contactor can be used both in control and power circuits.

Relays are usually used for low voltage applications, while
contectors are used for higher voltage application. and
contectors usually have over overload protection. generally
relays have donot protection..

i think relay and contactor, both are same for feu tomes this
are also used in control ckt,.in electrical panel but
contsctor are used in power ckt and control ckt ,

contactor usually used to make and brake the power
circuit. Its transfer higer current from one end to another
end.But relays mostly used to lower voltage cicuit and help
to build the circuit logics for our design

relay senses the abnormal condition and whenever it exists ,
relay contacts get closed which in turn closes the trip
circuit of circuit breaker.
The term "Contactor" is often used for electromechanical
witches that control large motor loads.
both are used for switching but contactor for high currents
and relay used upto 5 or 6 amp. current

Answer / m.senthil
Which is directly connected with the load is called contactor. whereas if the above same contactor is control the other one contactor, which is connected with the load, here the controlling contactor is called relay.

The relay amd contactors are electro magnetic switches ,
difference between these is contactors are used for high
curent applications more than 5KW, but relays are used for
control circuit applications less than 5KW
