I HAVE CONSUMER WHOSE POWER FACTOR IS 65% I WANT TO INCREASE IT TO 98%.HOW TO CARRY OUT?..

Answer / mubashar ali

you can calculate VRAr, those required for improvment 0.65
to 0.98
KW(Tan1-Tan2)
KW= your total load
Tan1= cos invers of first pf ,than take tan1
Tan2= cos invers of second pf, than take tan2
then u find total KVAr reqird , and installed same rating
capictor

I HAVE CONSUMER WHOSE POWER FACTOR IS 65% I WANT TO INCREASE IT TO 98%.HOW TO CARRY OUT?..

Answer / mrt

by adding capacitors parallel to the load we can increase
the power factor. Now a days APFC will regualtes the power
factor

I HAVE CONSUMER WHOSE POWER FACTOR IS 65% I WANT TO INCREASE IT TO 98%.HOW TO CARRY OUT?..

Answer / hm

Power factor improving devices:
1. capacitor banks
2. synchronous condensers
3. phase advancers etc.

synchronous condensers are used in industries but for low
power customers capacitor banks are useful. but only
disadvantage is that if supply voltage does not remain
constant, reactive power generation by capacitor varies so
power factor cant remain at 98%, it fluctuates.

so don't install rated capacitor banks directly, add a
voltage regulator circuit to maintain constant voltage or
better to use APFC.

I HAVE CONSUMER WHOSE POWER FACTOR IS 65% I WANT TO INCREASE IT TO 98%.HOW TO CARRY OUT?..

Answer / navin

reqd KVAR = KW ( Tan (cos-1 P1) - Tan ( cos-1 P2) )

KW- Load KW
P1- Existing PF angle
P2- Desired PF angle

Answer / zahid noor

Now a days Automatic Power Factor Control Panels can be
easily purchased from Panel manufacturer by providing them
the details of load, voltage level, current etc & existing
PF , can contact m/s Universal cables Satna, M/s L&T
Switchgear, and some local manufacturers can also supply as
per requirement.

I HAVE CONSUMER WHOSE POWER FACTOR IS 65% I WANT TO INCREASE IT TO 98%.HOW TO CARRY OUT?..

Answer / rahul

to increase the power factor from 65% to 98%, the consumer
may install certain equipments such as INDUCTION MOTOR etc
which works at leading power factor and hence draws the
lagging reactive component and hence increases the overall
power factor!!!!!!!
