why 1.25 factor is to be multiplied to cylindrical strength of concrete while getting the equvalen..

Answer / gaurav

1.standard cube has a ht/width ratio of 1 and std cyl has
the same ratio of 2 . cube registers a higher compressive
str than cyl which is approx 1.25 times more hense the
multiplications .

why 1.25 factor is to be multiplied to cylindrical strength of concrete while getting the equvalen..

Answer / abhijit sane

Acube has height to width ratio of 1. Hence, slenderness
does not play any role and a s a result the compressive
strength is on higher side for a cube.
In case of cylinder the slenderness comes into picture and
as a result the compressive strength is on lower side.
Hence we multiply by 1.25 to get a realistic picture

why 1.25 factor is to be multiplied to cylindrical strength of concrete while getting the equvalen..

Answer / b.srinivasarao

generally cylindricalstrength is equalto cube strength,
when cylender height to dia. ratio is 2:1, because
correction factor for cylindrical strength is

f=0.11n+0.78, where n=HEIGHT OF CYLINDER/DIA.OF CYLINDER.
SO IF H/D RATIO VARIES CORRECTION FACTOR ALSO VARIES

why 1.25 factor is to be multiplied to cylindrical strength of concrete while getting the equvalen..

Answer / umair majeed

Governing factor of application of such factor is h/d ratio of both the cube and cylinder specimens. As h/d ratio increases, strength decreases. h/d ratio of cylinder is twice to that of cube. Moreover, when load is applied on cube specimens, compression imposed by platens of testing machine enhance the confinement which in turn increases the compressive strength of cubes. It is reported that for 3000psi concrete, ratio of strength of cylinder to that of cube is around 0.76. Hence whenever cube strength is taken as multiple of cylinder strength then a factor of 1.25 is incorporated to get approximate results.

why 1.25 factor is to be multiplied to cylindrical strength of concrete while getting the equvalen..

Answer / iamrk1293

due to less height there is an overlapping in end friction in cubes. the end friction effect is up to 0.8*base dimension for each face which gives 0.6*L overlapping
but cylinder have double height than base dimension which will eventually stops from end friction overlapping.

why 1.25 factor is to be multiplied to cylindrical strength of concrete while getting the equvalen..

Answer / eng. ali

Because of the overlap in the cracks of the cylindrical
sample,With the knowledge that the two samples have the
same ratio.
