A transformer works on the principle of Faraday's law of
electromagnetic Induction.A transformer consists of 2
coils;a primary winding to which supply is given & a
secondary winding to which load is connected.
When supply is given to the primary coil,an alternating
current flows through the coil. This alternating current
sets up an alternating flux in the core which links the
primary as well as secondary winding.Due to rate of change
of flux,an emf is induced in both the coils. The emf induced
in the primary is called Self induced emf & the emf induced
in the secondary winding is the mutual induced emf.
