breakdown voltage term is generally used in capacitor. It
is the maximum voltage that a insulation of capacitor can
withstand after that insulation get punctured. it is also
known as dielectric strength.

BDV-Means Breakdown voltage strength,This can used to test
for all electrical insulated items and other products like
capacitor and insulators etc.Its the withstanding capacity
at particular time when the maximum voltage is reached, its
mentioned interms of KV.for example-Transformer oil,HV
insulators,capacitors etc.

This the minimum voltage at which insulation materials
loose their insulatating property. It may be insulating
property of transforemer oil, winding of motor/alternator,
any type of insulator etc.

The breakdown voltage of an Insulator is the minimum
voltage that causes a portion of an insulator to become
electrically conductive

Answer / shadan hashmi
Breakdown voltage is basically a maximum reverse voltage at
which just reaching pn
junction breaks down with sudden rise in reverse current.

Answer / haritha princy
This observed in semiconductors such as silicon and
germanium etc....In diode in reverse bias condition ,voltage
at which we observe current is enormously large is called
breakdown voltage of that diode. This occurs when breakage
of covalent bonds in depletion region. This breakdown
voltage is very high in negative.
