why voltage drop will occurs in 3 phase line?

Answer / deepika tola
Because any line has an impedance, and acc to a simple law
known as ohm's law, voltage drop, V=IR.. so wen ther is
resistance/impedance, any line, whether it be 3-phase, 1-
phase, d.c. or any new invention...... it WILL have a
voltage drop!!

BECAUSE TRANSMISSION LINE ITSELF HAS ITS OWN IMPEDANCE
(JUST LIKE A SERIES CONNECTED LOAD)

Voltage drop especially in 3 phase system is due to low
power factor.Low power factor leads to increase in I2r
losses which in turn increses the regulation. As regulation
increases voltage drop occurs which directly effects the
efficiency of generation and increase in stress of
transmission line.Thats why KEB people who are responsible
for maintaining required voltage put fine if we maintain
low power factor.Corona and skin effect are negligeble .

Because, the transmission lines are inductive conductor they have impedance and they absorb reactive power. So, we add capacitors to give reactive power to the transmission lines then will not be any dropped voltage.
But, if the transmission lines are resistive, then adding capacitors will not solve the problem because the resistive lines do not absorb reactive power.

one reason is due to overloading and due to faulty
equipments connected to the line.

Due to Overloading and also the cable used has owned
resistance that can consumed voltage

skin efect and corona effect r the most common effect that
causes the line voltage drop.
apart from that drops the very major and very technical
effect that cause loss in poer and freq. is reactive poer
loss.
than can be compenseted only by using Capacitor Bank.

When measuring the Insulation resistance of a motor winding (winding to earth) using a megger meter, Applied voltage(1000V) was automatically reduced to 500V. and the measured insulation resistance values are also very low (in Kohm range) Can anyone give me a reason???

This is about the recent problem that we have faced in our project site. We have 6/7.5 MVA. 66/11kV three phase star - star power transformer. The neutral was solidly connected to the earthing mat. But because of high resistance of earthing mat (130 ohm on LV and 180 ohm on HV), one day LV side neutral earthing conductor melted and we had a huge damage. Can any one plz tell me what might happen when we connect power transformer neutral to the earthing mat which has high resistance (>100 ohm ) ?????
