what is diffrence between analog card and digital card in plc.how analog card work,Please explain ..

Answer / ytd

There are two types of communication signals PlC is
handling either to field instruments ( O/p) or from field
instruments ( i/p). This digital signals are used as
control on / off operation in o/p card and read present
status in the form of On or OFF.
Digital signals are in the form of binary logic either
Present ( High may be 5 V / 24 V) or Low ( o V)
In analogue form of signal It can be 0 to 10 V in descrite
values ( o to 100%) or 4 to 20 MA) These analogue signal
received from Load cells, Transducers or from position
control devices.

digital card used for digital input and digital o/p.digital
i/p means status of allswitches whether it is on or off and
pump rts (ready to start),run conform & trip
indication .digital o/p means pump start ,stop,
local/remote. it deals only binary either on or off (0 or
1).analog card deals with analog i/p & analog o/p means 4to
20 ma.analog i/p means for ex. in case of control valve %
of open & close needed so according to 4 to 20 means 0 to
100% open close .analog o/p means o/p from all
transmiter.for ex . in case of level transmiter 50% level
in tank means o/p is 12ma .4ma-0,8ma-25%,12ma-50%,16ma-
75%,20ma -100%.

what is diffrence between analog card and digital card in plc.how analog card work,Please explain ..

Answer / mathan.j

Analog card means the signals may interms of 4-20 ma , 1-5 v
ie variable source of signals.
Digital cards means the source of signals may interms of
binary o & 1, no & nc contacts ie 24v or 0v.

for example transmitters are produce 4-20 ma ,and it is
called analog input.

limit switches ,On & Off switches are called digital
signals.

what is diffrence between analog card and digital card in plc.how analog card work,Please explain ..

Answer / suraj sharma , krishan chand

analog card is that where we have to measure the temperature
of RTD and Thermocouple, where as digital card is used as
that check the condition of the motor is in on condition or
off condition, in analog card we have two voltages like
(0-10v) and (4-20mA) and in this card we have a switch
setting for the reason that we want o/p in mA or V in many
case, in the case of analog card we have a single i/o card
with it self but in case of digital card we have a i/o card
is separate, analog card is a measuring value device but in
case of digital card its o/p is either 0 or 1, and digital
card o/p is turned on due to relays.

Analog Cards

Digium® analog cards were created for connecting analog
telephones and analog POTS (Plain Old Telephone System)
lines to the PSTN through a PC. With these cards, users can
transport calls from POTS to POTS, POTS to PBX, or POTS to
VoIP. Using one of our analog cards in concert with Digium's
Asterisk® software, standard PC platforms, and the Linux®
OS, one can create telephony solutions capable of satisfying
the needs of business applications with industry-leading
quality. Digium's analog cards utilize patent pending
VoiceBus™ technology. VoiceBus technology allows these cards
to use an industry standard, bus-mastering interface as
found in millions of PCs worldwide. VoiceBus maximizes
system compatibility and prevents system conflicts.

Digital Cards

Digium digital cards are high-performance, cost effective,
digital telephony interfaces. Digium digital cards in the TE
series support both E1 and T1 environments. The environments
are selectable on a per-card or per-port basis. This feature
enables signaling translation between E1 and T1 equipment,
and allows inexpensive T1 channel banks to connect with E1
circuits. The bus-mastering TE cards improve I/O speed over
slave-only architectures, resulting in reduced CPU usage and
increased card density per server. The cards provide the
power to interconnect traditional telephony systems (legacy
PBX) with emerging Voice-over IP (VoIP) technologies.
