Clearly Define Active,Reactive,Apparant power.Which applications used which power above metioned p..

Answer / ashish kumar lal

active power is the power consumed by the electrical
device...it is cos component of the Apparent power VI.
Reactive power is the sin component of the Apparent power
VI. It is not consumed by the device but swings back and
forth between generating station and the load.It is the
unuseful component..so its increase causes much current
drawn by the device from the power plant hence extra burden.

Answer / praveen

Active and Reactive power are two parts of electrical power
i.e., power=active + j*reactive...
usally we try to neutral the reactive power by adding
capacitor in the circuit...

Apparent power - The power made available to us by
electricity authority for which we pay tariff.
Active power - The power that the connected load consumes
Reactive power - A nuisance power generated by the
connected load in the system itself.
All the three are vector components. Therefore in a common
man's language, active power is nothing but apparent power
delivered at a factor known as 'Power Factor'

Apparent Power, Real power & Reactive power

For example if we give i/p to a electrical equipment in
product of voltage n current (VxI)that is apparent power
(KVA)i.e that device seems to be work in that power but
unless that device is pure resistive its consumed power will
depend upon the power factor i.e its actual consumption will
not be equal to what we had given as i/p power due to
inductive/capacitive load.
so its actual consumption is said to be Real/Actual power
thats why we multiply cos phi to VI (KW).
If its a pure resistive load apparent power n real power
will be equal .that means unity power factor(p/f=Real
Power/Apparent Power).
power generated due to inductive/capacitive load is called
Reactive power.
If Power factor is not unity there will be flow of reactive
power. this will results high loss .i.e this will flow
reverse to generating station there by transmission cable
wont be capable of carrying this extra power, so conductor
will break n cu loss will increase.........

when a coil or capacitor is connected to an AC power
supply, the coil or capacitor stores electrical energy
during one-fourth of an AC cycle. But then during the next
quarter-cycle, the coil or capacitor dumps all the stored
energy back into the distant AC power supply. Ideal coils
and capacitors consume no electrical energy, yet they
create a significant electric current. In other words, if
your electrical appliance contains inductance or
capacitance, then electrical energy will periodically
return to the power plant, and it will flow back and forth
across the power lines. This leads to an extra current in
the power lines, a current which heats the power lines, but
which isn't used to provide energy to the appliance. The
coil or capacitor causes electrical energy to
begin "sloshing" back and forth between the appliance and
the distant AC generator. ACTIVE power is what what you pay
for.apparant power is the vector sum of active and reactive
power

Answer / jayesh pillai

square of kva= square of kw + square of kvar

here, a power system possess apparent power i.e. kva
it is divided into two components i.e kw active power and
kvar reactive power

kw = kva*(cos phi) and kvar = kva (sin phi)
here actual power i.e. responsible as a loss component and
thus losses occurs in line due to active power

reactive power does not does any useful work but it is
responsible for building up magnetic field in motors or any
inductive equipments

Answer / deepak tyagi

IN 3-PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR ACTIVE POWER IS CONVERTED INTO
MECHNICAL POWER THIS MEAN THAT ACTIVE POWER IS ONE WHICH WE
USE AND IT IS EQUAL TO THE VICOSQ. REACTIVE POWER IS ONE
WHICH GENERATE THE MAGNETIC FIELD IN MACHINE. TOTAL POWER
DRAWAN BY THE MACHINE IS CALLED APPERNT POWER.
