in case of dc we use transformer.
but in case of dc we use not transformer because in dc
case frequency is zero. in dc case we use chopper (power
electronics devices) it changes the fixed dc voltage in to
a variable dc voltage.

IN AC SUPPLY PRODUCED HIGH CURRENT ALSO SO DC CANNOT
PRODUCED HIGH CURRENT FOR E.G DC SUPPLY MAX CAPACITY BELOW
500 AH IN SINGLE BATTERY. IN AC ALTERNATOR PRODUCED MEGA
CURRENT BUT DOMESTIC USE 230V ONLY SO DECREASE THE VOLTAGE
RANGE IS USED FOR TRANSFORMER. 63/33KV AND 33/11KV AND
11KV/430V. PRODUCES THE CURRENT IN ALTERNATOR IS VERY HIGH
TRANSMISSION LINE ITS USED HIGH VOLTAGE LINE. IN DC SUPPLY
IS USE FOR MARINE RAILWAY SIGNAL ETC IN DC SUPPLY PRODUCES
THE BATTERY BUT CHARGE THE BATTERY WANT AC SUPPLY.

Answer / avik ghosh
transformer works depending upon flux linkage changing.it
needs some change of flux linkage.otherwise it will not
step up or step down the input ,which is the basic
principle.for dc supply is constant,no question of flux
linkage change arises.
