In Vibration Monitoring System -24V DC is using to Proximity sensor(Bently Naveda).
Because PNP transistor is used in this proximity sensor.The PNP transistor bsae voltage is negative 24v supply.That's why -24v DC supply is using.
When the probe is in air it will have no induced voltage
so all -24 voltage without induced voltage will return back.

-24V DC You can use in PLC also.Normally Phase and Neutral is using for +24VDC. but in -24 V DC case you should change the connection Phase to ground and Neutral to Phase.

I am using Capacitive type level transmitter for measuring oil level in a closed tank (lub oil tank). The txs range is 1500mm, and they do hunt regularly (for about 45mm), can anybody tell what could be the reason??? or any other type level tx that could be used to avoid this?
