Pf is nothing but power factor. And it is defined as cosine of the angle between the applied voltage and current in any electrical circuit. So from this sentence or definition nobody can easily understand the actual concept of power factor.
Power factor plays an important part every were in an electrical circuit. Now considering an inductive load of a induction motor we say that , the pf is lagging and if the load is capacitive then we term pf to be leading.
An inductive load affects the power system supply voltage by lagging the pf drastically, so to improve the pf we can use capacitors, synchronous motors, or phase advances.
But the best way to deal with this stuff is to make limited use of inductive loads. So that we can reduce the losses quite easily.

power factor of an AC electrical power system is defined as the ratio of the real power flowing to the load.
The simplest way use a filter that passes current only at line frequency (50 or 60 Hz). The filter consists of capacitors or induction coils. This process is called PFC.
It means Power Factor Correction.
