Stepwise process of Northern grid failure in 2012!? (dont
copy paste from wikipedia)
Answer / mebin g mathew
According to the report, Some of the high voltage lines of
Northern Grid were under maintenance and hence the other
lines were highly loaded EVEN 400kv line was used to
compensate the power shutdown of 765 KV LINE. So the 400 KV
line was highly loaded. Due to this the, line tripped and
this worsened the condition load bearing problem for the
other line since all the power requirement came to other
lines. They also started tripping in power swing and some
relays even detected zone 3 tripping(false tripping).
When a huge load was released, the power plant had to shut
them down to protect the generators and other equipments in
plant. A power plant require hours to reignite and start the
production in full flex. And there was a panic to
immediately start production because all were shocked of
the incident.
So thus the norther grid was isolated from other region
grid. That led to a complete black out in North India. The
report ends with an interesting statement that this might
have happened due to hacking of powergrids PLC engineering PC.
