as per IS 456 2000
development length formula is Ld=0.87fyd(dia)/4tbd
tbd for various concrete is M20=1.2 m25=1.4 m30=0.5 m35=1.7
m40 and above=1.9
for deform bars 60%increase the value of tbd for compression it is increse by 25%
for example m25 grade concrete and fy 415
ld=0.87*415*D/4*1.4*1.6=40.29D
for m25 and fy=500 ld=48.54D approx 50D
anchorage length=Ld+2D
straight anchorage length=SAL=AL+8D

Answer / sjtbehera
Lap length decided by devlopment length of the steel and grade of concrete. 50D generally taken as thumb rule in m20 grade. In m25 grade it is 41d.

Developing length generally depends on the grade of concrete and grade of reinforcement.And it is decided by the given formula on the basis of IS code;456 :2000
Ld=0.87fyd/4tbd
