An Inverter is used to control the speed of the compressor motor, so as to continuously regulate the temperature. It improves the COP & EER of an AC.

function of inverter is to convert dc power into ac power.
and to do that various type os switching device like scr or igbts or MOSfets are used. and their switching can be controlled with the gate pulse so we can get desired sine wave as an output.
