why the earth pin is thicker than other pins in a plug? If
it is for reducing resistance, then why the copper earth
wire is not so thick as earth pin of socket?

Answer / xyz
actually thickness is just for distinguishing it from
others and it is more in length than other pins as to
connect earth first to circuits.

Hi..
Actually you are all right, Earth Pin is Thicker as well as
the longest of all among them.
Its the longest because of the reason that every time you
put the plug in the wall mount, if there is current leakage
then it would firstly be earthened and thus saving your life.

Actually the earthpin size is high and thickness is also large to pass more leakage currrent and not for load current.Load current normally returns via neutral.and one more thing is earth is taken care for high current rating devices whose current rating is above 5A.

Answer / avnish
you are absolutely correct that it is for redusing the
resistance so that current can pass,As we all know that
current follows min. resistance path. As far your next
question if we keep earth wire thick as pin of socket than
it will be very costly comparision to previous one .So as
this will considered as cost point of view....thanx
